HC dismisses plea against BMC colleges

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, JUNE 9: The Bombay High Court today dismissed a petition filed by eight students challenging the recent fee hike in medical colleges run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. However, considering that the students would have to pay arrears from June 1998, which amounted to Rs 3000 per term, the division bench of Justice B N Srikrishna and Justice R M Lodha directed that the students will be allowed to pay their arrears in three equal instalments by July 1st, October 1st and January 1st.

A V Raut and seven others had challenged the hike in medical fees in colleges run by the BMC on the grounds that the fee hike was almost 100 per cent and the fees were not granted any sanction by the state government that was mandatory.
