MUMBAI, JUNE 9: A retired senior inspector of police and three members of his family were convicted by the City Civil and Sessions Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act today, for amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income during the police officer's tenure in service.Special Judge S P Kukaday sentenced Satyapal Chauhan (68) to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined him Rs 5 lakh under Sections 13(1)(e) read with 12(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. In default, Chauhan has been ordered to undergo a term of one year's RI.
Chauhan's wife Anuradha, son Vinod and brother Surendrakumar were also convicted under the same act and sentenced to three months RI and fined Rs 1,000 each. They were charged with helping Satyapal Chauhan to amass wealth through corrupt means.
