MUMBAI: The State Government today raised by 40 pc the pension and family pension for former State Government employees. It will cost the State exchequer Rs 220 crore. Rane said those who retired on or after January 1, 1996 will get the revised pension from July 1, 1999 and no arrears will be paid.

Compensation

MUMBAI: The State Government on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the trio of Lance Naik Eknath Chaitram Khairnar and Lance Naik Suresh Vishnu (Nashik) and Narayan Salunke (Satara) who died in Kargil operation.

Faleiro takes over

PANAJI: GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro who was elected leader of the Cong Legislative Party took oath of office as Chief Minister of Goa on Wednesday. It was delayed by more than a day as the Union Cabinet decided on revocation of President's rule only on Tuesday.
