Congress councillor demands inquiry

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, June 9: Congress councillor Ashwin Thakore has called for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the tenders for construction of more than 3,000 houses for the economically weaker sections of society. The proposal for considering the tender is likely to be taken up for discussion in the Standing Committee meeting of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Wednesday.

In a letter to members of the administrative wing and office-bearers of the elected wing, Thakore has alleged that although the tenders have been re-invited, there are certain things which point towards irregularities.

Citing several examples, Thakore questioned how a contractor who does not have a sales-tax number could shoulder the responsibility of constructing houses for the weaker sections of society. He added that the fact that only one out of five people who took the tenders filled it also raised suspicions.
