BBA, BCA admissions centralised by Punjab University

Jatin Gandhi
CHANDIGARH, June 9: A high-powered committee of the Punjab University has decided to centralise the admissions for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) courses at affiliated colleges in Chandigarh and Punjab for the coming session (1999-2000).

Admissions to all colleges for the BBA course will be made at Government College, Sector 46, in the city, for which college principal Maj D. P. Singh (retd) has been made the coordinator.

Meanwhile, admissions to the BCA course will be conducted at Ramgarhia College for Girls, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana, under direct charge of college principal Harmeet Kaur, university sources said.

The 13-member committee, headed by the PU Dean University Instructions (DUI), in its meeting held here today, decided that admissions would be held in the first week of August, sources said.

The committee comprises the PU Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Dean College Development Council, principals of seven affiliated colleges and other university officials.

Two seven-member sub-committees were also constituted today to "work out the finer details for admission to the two courses separately," a PU official said. It was added that the sub-committees will decide dates for declaration of results and admissions at meetings to be held later this week. The entrance test for admission to the two courses is being held in the last week of this month, a senior PU official stated. A member added that the decision to centralise admissions was taken to prevent parents from being fleeced and to place all students on an equal footing, on the basis of the test.
