Minor tremors in western Maharashtra
Satara:
The seismograph at Koyna dam recorded as many as ten minor to slight intensity shocks between 9.15 and 9.46 pm on The magnitude of the shocks on Richter Scale varied between 1.9 to 4.7, according to district collector Anil Diggikar. Anxieties were heightened among the denizens of hilly Patan-Koyna region of Satara following yet another series of mild tremors. There were no reports of any damage from any parts of Satara.

Karveer library's 150th anniversary
Kolhapur:
Computerisation and micropixing of the old scriptures will mark the 150th anniversary of the Karveer Nagarvachan Mandir here, one of the distinguished libraries of the region.

The library governing council has also decided to take up various cultural and educational activities in 1999-2000 beginning from June 15.

Shivmuni Maharaj takes over
Ahmednagar:
Dr Shivmuni Maharaj who took over the reins of Akhil Bharatiya Shwetambar Sthanakva-siya Shraman Sangh on Wednesday morning has called upon the Jain monks to bury their hatchets and work towards strengthening the Shraman Sangh. Shivmuni Maharaj is the fourth acharya of the Jain community.

Earlier, Shraman Sangh chairman Hastimal Munot presented a charter of appointment from Akhil Bharatiya Shwetambar Sthanakvasi Shraman Sangh general secretary Soubhagyamuni Maharaj to Shivmuni Maharaj at a function here.

Addressing a gathering later, Shivmuni Maharaj emphasised that adherence to religious preachings and the doctrine of truth and following the principles laid down by Bhagwan Mahaveer were his obligations as iacharya. He would strive to retain the honour of his position, he said.
