NEW DELHI, June 9: Four-time champions Food Corporation of India (North Zone) recorded their third successive victory when they edged past Oriental Bank Football Club 2-1 in a group A Super League match of DSA-OBC Institutional Football League Championship at Ambedkar Stadium here today.FCI (NZ) had already reached the semi-finals and completed their engagements by securing nine points from three matches. Oriental Bank have only three points from two matches and will play their last match against P.N.B. tomorrow morning.
After a barren first half, F.C.I. forged ahead in the 48th minute when defender Gurmeet Singh converted a penalty-kick. Winners' substitute player Sanjeev Bhalla increased the score to 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Oriental Bank's defender Arjun Negi reduced the margin in the 67th minute.
In the second match in the same group, Punjab National Bank scored it's first victory when they prevailed over Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) 3-0 to earn full points. PNB collected three points from two matches while ESIC drew blank after three matches.
Scores for PNB were former international Bhupender Thakur (1-0 in 10th minute), Manoj Bhatt (2-0 in the 11th minute) and R. Gosain (3-0 in the 14th minute).
