Konkan Railway traffic hit due to landslides

Traffic on the Konkan Railway (KR) route were disrupted on Saturday following landslides between Honnavar and Murdeshwar railway stations. Heavy rainfall near Bhatkal in Karnataka resulted in the landslide which completely covered the tracks last evening. The tracks are expected to be cleared by Sunday evening. The KRC has claimed that all passengers who have been stranded midway are safe and are being transported to their destinations by various means.

Youth hurt in stone-throwing

A 25-year-old youth was injured when he was hit by a stone while travelling in a local train on Friday night. Guruprasad Jaitheerth Acharya, a resident of Borivali, was standing on the footboard on a Virar-bound local when the incident occurred. A few minutes after the train left Andheri railway station, an unidentified person threw a stone which hit Acharya and injured him on his right forehead. After being administered first aid at the Bhabha hospital, Acharya wasdischarged. A case has been registered with the Bandra Railway Police.

Prabodhan park opens for public

The Prabodhan Jogger's Park at Goregaon has been opened for the public. It offers three facilities - a jogging track, a library and a tennis court. For details call 873 4869.

Morcha against rise in robberies

Residents of Kanjur and Bhandup will take a morcha to the Kanjur Marg police station tomorrow in protest against rising thefts in their area. The Citizen's Action Committee, spearheading the morcha, claims that on an average two house-breaks occur in the area every month.

Dahanu-Nashik railway line survey

Survey work on the proposed broad-guage railway line between Dahanu Road and Nashik will commence on June 12. The inauguration of the survey will be done by Union Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik at a function at Old Rajwada in Jawhar in Thane district on Saturday.

Fish treatment for asthma

A camp for the treatment of asthma using live fish or bananaswill be held at Dadar and Kalyan. For details call the Kalyan centre at 911-310355 or the Dadar centre at 413 7843/7844.

Sachin Ahir is new RMMS chief

Sachin Ahir has been elected the president of the Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh, Mumbai replacing Govindrao Adik. At a meeting held yesterday, Ekanath Bandal and Ramchandra Hulawale were elected working president and general secretary respectively.
