Dutta-Patil claim Enterprise

Pune, June 12: Major Gautam Dutta (HELM) and Nilay Patil of Naval Sailing Club (NSC), Mumbai won the 18th National Inland Enterprise championship which concluded at Khadakvasla lake here today.

The pair of Dutta and Patil annexed 32.4 points to bag the overall first positions.

Results: 7th race: 1-Naresh Yadav (HELM) & Sanjeev Chauhan (crew)-NSC, Mumbai; 2-Hardeep Singh (HELM) & D L Prashant (crew), NDA; 3-Peter Vincent (HELM) & Rohan Patil (crew)- SCC Sailing Association.

Overall championship: 1-Major Gautam Dutta (HELM) & Nilay Patil (crew)-NSC, Mumbai-32.4 pts; 2-Naresh Yadav (HELM) & Sanjeev Chauhan (crew), NSC, Mumbai- 36.7 pts; 3-Nitin Mongia (HELM) & Smitha Chavan (crew), NSC, Mumbai-40 pts.

Royal pip DBYC B

Mumbai: Cafe Royal beat Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC) B 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the semi-final tie of the MDFA Guru Nanak Trophy football tournament at St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.

Royal now await the winner of the semi-final clash between Borivli Rangers and StPaul's.

Royal wrested the lead early in the fifth minute. Leroy Nunes beat goalkeeper Deepak Kamble with a header following a free-kick taken by Jennio Fialho.

The DBYC equaliser came at the fag end of the clash. Vikram Singh neatly passed the ball to Rajesh Jagdankar after controlling a centre by Linga Raj and Jagdankar tapped the ball home from close.

In the tie-breaker, Ryan S, Jennio Fialho and Manuel Fernandes netted for Royal. Only Linga Raj was successful for DBYC.

Weightlifting Nationals

BANGALORE: About 300 lifters, including 100 women, are expected to vie for the top honours in the 51st men and 14th women National Senior Weightlifting Championship here from June 16 to 20.

Prominent lifters taking part include Olympian Satish Rai of Bank Sports Board, internationals T Muthy, Vadivelu, D Wilson and N Krishnamurthy (all Services); among the women, twice world champion Karnam Malleswari and internationals Kunjarani Devi, Sanamacha Chanu and Nandini Devi.
