Cases against 6 for issuing threats

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, June 13: The city police have registered cases of threatening to kill against six people in separate incidents that occurred in the past 24 hours. While one case was over an attempt to usurp a piece of land, the other concerned payments between parties, the police said on Sunday.

The first complaint, registered by one Damyanti Champak Patel from Saroli, who is presently residing in the United States, said that Bhogilal Vaidya, manager of Jaihind Transport, Akbar Sukhatiyar Sindhi, the transport company's watchman, Thakore Bhula Patel and Jayesh Thakore Patel -- both residents of Athwa Lines -- built a compound on her land, and when told not to grab the land, threatened on Saturday evening to kill her and her family.

According to the complaint, Damyanti Patel was informed in the US that her land was being grabbed by the four. She is first reported to have told them on the phone from there not to do so, but she came over to settle the issue a few days back. Damyanti, in her complaint stated that she and her family were threatened with dire consequences over the phone, both in the US and also at her house in the city.

Kapodara PSI C D Parmar, who is investigating the case, said that the watchman has been arrested while the others are absconding.

In the second case registered at the Pandesara police station, Mukesh Oswal, a resident of Siddharth Apartments, Parle Point, told the police that he was threatened with dire consequences and beaten up by one Akram, the owner of Azra Furniture Mart, and his servant Sharif on Saturday night. Oswal said that he owed Akram some money and promised to pay it soon, but Akram attacked him. PSI S R Borse is investigating further.
