Muttemwar raises demand for MLA Chaturvedi's ouster

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, June 13: A group of Congress leaders, led by sitting Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar, met the All India Congress Committee general secretary during his Nagpur stay and demanded immediate expulsion of party legislator, Satish Chaturvedi, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against some selected city party functionaries.

While addressing a party workers' meeting at Devadia Congress Bhavan here recently, Chaturvedi reportedly alleged that there was a strong possibility of another split in the Congress after the Lok Sabha elections.

Making an obvious referrence to Muttemwar, who allegedly joined the Sharad Pawar camp in recent past, he had charged that some Pawar loyalists left in the party might join Pawar after the polls.

The Congress legislator also indirectly hinted that there was a nexus between Muttemwar and another expelled party leader, Tariq Anwar.

The statement of Chaturvedi created a furore among workers which led to allegations and counter-allegations by both the groups. Party corporatorand Muttemwar loyalist Vijay Babhare demanded that Chaturvedi should be expelled from the party immediately.

Muttemwar was supported by Ashok Dhawad, Govindrao Wanjari, Baburao Tidke and Shekhar Sawarbandhe, known rivals of Chaturvedi. They also alleged that the Devadia Congress Bhavan, controlled by Chaturvedi group, has become a den of goons.

Ironically, Kishore Kashikar, city Congress president, was present when these Congress leaders made such allegations against the functioning of the party office, to Azad. He, however, did not defend himself or his colleagues.Azad informed the agitating party leaders that he was already apprised about the happenings by the senior Congress leader, Mukul Wasnik.Chaturvedi was not available for comments.
