Two martyrs cremated with full honours

PANIPAT, JUNE 16: Havaldar Beejay Singh of Jat Regiment and Subedar Randhir Singh of 18 Granediers of the Indian Army who died fighting Pak-backed infiltrators in Jammu and Kashmir were cremated with full military honours on Wednesday.

Halvadar Beejay Singh who died fighting militants in Kaksar-Kargil area on Saturday was cremated at his native village Puthar by eldest son Jawant (9).Singh (40) who joined the Army on October 27, 1979, is survived by his wife Bimla Devi (35), two sons and two daughters, parents and three brothers.After Halvadar Beejay's body reached the village, residents gathered in large numbers to have a last glimpse of the martyr. More than 2,000 villagers from Puthar and adjoining villages were present at the cremation.The grief-stricken parents of the killed soldier said they were proud that their son had sacrificed his life while safeguarding the interest of the country besides bringing good name to the family. The stoic father said he was prepared to enroll his two other sons andgrandsons in the Army.Subedar Randhir was consigned to flames at his native village Balkara in Dadri sub-division of Bhiwani district.

When his younger son Rajpal lit the pyre, people shouted slogans like "Bharat mata ki jai, shahid Randhir Singh amar rahe."

Subedar Randhir sacrificed his life on June 3 while fighting in Drass area. When Subedar Randhir Body was brought at Balkara, a large number of villagers turned up to their last homage.
