There are certain issues on which the country and its leadership must have zero tolerance. When hostile people cross the border and walk into your territory, there can only be zero tolerance. As a film maker, I knew a year and a half ago when I started researching my film Kashmir that there were Stinger missiles in the Valley. How is it that the intelligence didn't find out? In fact, the entire climax in my film revolves around these missiles. When the Kargil crisis broke out, my co-writer called me up and said our script is coming alive!
At this point, the morale of our Army is crucial. Which is why it is so important for the entire nation to get together to fight this aggression. But conflicting signals from our politicians have clouded the real issue.Peace initiatives are fine, but you never negotiate from a position of weakness. It's been happening for months. You cannot ignore critical issues, especially when you're at war. I feel very strongly about this issue, more so because I belong toKashmir.
Yesterday, I called up a journalist friend in Srinagar and she said you cannot imagine what's happening. People must know that our country's jawans are dying while the politicians are finding scapegoats. Which is why it is so important for people like us to take a stand. My film on Kashmir has scenes showing how arms are sent from across the border, how terrorists are created and the way the whole system encourages disturbance in Kashmir. All I'd like to say is, No politics please, there's a war on.
