One caught stoning local

An alert railway police constable nabbed a stone-thrower red-handed at the Kandivli station on Wednesday morning. Ramshekhar B Vishwakarma (24), who was standing on platform number 4 of Kandivli station at around 9.20 am, hurled a stone at a Churchgate-bound fast local. Fortunately, though, the stone missed the passengers and no one was injured. However, Vishwakarma, a resident of Kandivli (E), was unaware that constable Sahibrao Rambhau Rathore (34) was also nearby. PSI M K Badarpuri of Borivli railway police station is investigating the case.

The rule comes into effect from this year, when admission will commence after the SSCresults on June 22. Fund for theatre artistes

Cultural Affairs Minister Pramod Navalkar has urged setting up the Akhil Bhartiya Natya Parishad to set up a permanent fund for the benefit of noted theatre artists. Speaking at a gathering of theatre artists at Rangasharda today, Navalkar said the government receives letters from noted old theatre artists seeking financial aid ``but the government scheme has certain limitations. ``Since the artists have helped in enriching Marathi culture, audiences should contribute generously towards the fund,'' he added.
