CHANDIGARH, JUNE 16: A review of the progress of various developmental schemes in the Union Territory of Chandigarh would be done by Union Additional Secretary (Home) P.D. Shenoy, during his visit to the City on June 18 and 19.This would be Shenoy's first visit to the city. He handles the affairs of various Union Territories in the Union Home Ministry.
Among the various schemes to be reviewed at the meeting with officials of the Chandigarh Administration are centrally sponsored schemes, especially those related to the improvement of infrastructure and slums.
The Central team would also discuss the industrial plots scheme in Industrial Area Phase III which falls in forest area, a decision to which is pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The scheme has been delayed for many years now, mainly due to objections by the Union Environment Ministry.
According to sources, the Administration has already stated before the High Court that it will scrap the scheme. Sources add that there are many influential people who have applied for industrial plots under this scheme.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has also prepared a note showing the progress of various developmental schemes in the Union Territory.
