PATIALA, JUNE 16: The authorities of Punjab Public School (PPS) at Nabha have expressed their readiness to re-build the boundary wall around a playground of the school in which a temple is located and was pulled down by an irate mob on April 3. However, they have sought the help of district administration to provide adequate security while rebuilding the wall.A decision to this effect is believed to have been taken at a meeting of the board of governors of the school, held at Chandigarh, on Monday under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor Lt General (retd) B. K. N. Chhibber. Inquries made by The Indian Express revealed the meeting was attended among others by representatives of the district administration, including the commissioner of Patiala division, Deputy Commissioner and besides senior police officers.
Though there was no official word about the proceedings of the meeting, it is believed that the meeting felt that status quo as on April 3 be maintained. The general feeling was that the playground belongs to the school and its possession should be restored to the school management and unauthorised persons should be evicted.
The meeting also reportedly resolved that the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court would continue regaring allowing devotees to pay their obeisance at the Durga Shiva temple, located in the playground of the school.
The Durga Shiva temple managing committee, which has staked its claim to the chunk of land around the temple, had initially announced that it would undertake kar sewa at the site and build a langar bhawar (community kitchen hall). But it deferred its plan and sssured the district administration that it would not start kar sewa.
However, Swami Parmanand, a leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, announced here that he would, along with a group of kar sewaks from Hardwar, start kar sewa at the temple to have it `liberated'. He said this kar sewa would begin from June 23.
Langar (community kitchen) at the temple has Been continuing since April and a large number of people have been partaking in it. Voluntary donations have been coming forth for the langar, besides cash offerings.
Policemen have also been deployed by the district administration at the playground in order keep watch on the situation.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate today clamped prohibitory orders in Nabha sub-division of the district in view of the serious situation prevailing in Nabha on account of the dispute between the PPS management and temple management committee.
The orders will remain in force till July 15.
