VADODARA, JUNE 15: With most results in the M S University yet to be declared, varsity officials and students face an imminent threat of the academic calender being thrown out of gear. While the examinations this year were held earlier then last time, even the final year Arts, Commerce and Science results are still to be declared. And officials simply say they are unaware of the reason.
The worse sufferers are final year students wishing to pursue their masters in other universities after completing their courses here.
``Results in other parts of the country have already been declared and admissions for professional courses have begun,'' lamented Hetal Pandya, a third year Arts student.
Pandya added that as long as the final year results were not declared, the students could not apply to professional institutes since marksheets must be submitted along with admission forms.
``If the results are not declared by the month-end and classes don't start by the beginning of next month, then it will be difficult for students to complete their syllabi by the end of the next academic year, ''said Monal Shah, a second year Arts student.
Even professors agreed that the delay would affect the schedule. A senior professor of the Faculty of Science remarked, ``By this time of the year, forms are generally accepted and admission procedures completed.'' He added that this year the procedure could not be concluded on time and there is very little possibility of classes beginning next month. Students would face problems as the academic calendar might be shortened, he said.
University officials said that in certain faculties the assessment procedure was still on. ``Surprisingly, examinations in certain faculties were over much earlier than last year, but still the results are not out. By this time last year almost 50 per cent of the results were out. The whole procedure will be delayed because after the results are declared, another fortnight will be required for the reassessment process'', an official said.
He added that faculties like Arts and Commerce would not be much affected but Science and others were practicals were a compulsion would bear the brunt of the delay.
Dean of the Arts faculty Maya Shah said, ``The results have been delayed but I do not see any possibility of the academic schedule going haywire.'' Shah said that those who wanted to seek admissions elsewhere would face problems, but those interested in continuing in this university should not face much difficulty. Dean, faculty of Commerce, J K Syan also said that the present delay could be termed a delay, but how far it would affect the schedule remained to be seen.
Deputy registrar of the examination section C D Gandhi said, ``I would not term it as a delay in declaration.''
He added that the final year results would be declared by the end of next week, and the results of the other years would be declared by the month end.
