Some places are being taken for granted

Dilip Vengsarkar
Mohammad Azharuddin was spot on when he said that it were our bowlers who let us down when it mattered most. Bar the match against Pakistan, if one goes through our performances, it is clear that the bowlers either struggled to run through the lower batting order of the opponents, or they failed to contain or prevent them from running away with the match. We simply do not have bowlers who can bowl effectively at the death.

Srinath bowled too short, and in English conditions, you just can't afford to bowl that length. As Kapil Dev said, ``in England, you bowl a yard slower in pace, but pitch it up to be effective.''

The selectors will have to look to more younger players like Amay Khurasia, Mohammad Kaif, Reetinder Sodhi, Samir Dighe and MSK Prasad. Some of the current team members have lost the hunger to succeed and are taking their places in the side for granted. That's why India keep failing in crunch games. We need players who are hungry for success, committed to the team's cause. Nothing more, nothingless.
