NASHIK: Heavy rains lashing several parts of Maharashtra for past few days claimed eight lives on Saturday, taking the toll in the current monsoon in the state to 20 so far. Five persons were washed away in a flooded rivulet at Khamgaon town of Buldana district, reports said. Two persons, including a 19-year-girl died when a wall of their house collapsed at Barol village in Shahada taluka of Nandurbar district while another person was killed in a house collapse in Shaha in Sinnar taluka of Nashik district, the reports said.

NEW DELHI: A petition IN THE dELHI hIGH cOURT HAS SOUGHT A BAN ON iNDIAN cricketers displaying the logo of a cigarette brand on their cricketing gears in matches telecast live, saying it would have an "adverse" effect on children. Sports related advertisements of cigarette were growing and there was every likelihood of children being "lured" by the manufacturers' onslaught, the PIL filed by the Voluntary Health Association ofIndia alleged.

BLITAR (EAST JAVA): Thousands of Indonesians rejoiced as opposition leader Megawati Sukarnoputri appeared close to victory on Sunday. Her Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDI-P) has taken a strong lead in the counting, reports said. The final results are scheduled for Monday.
