Banned lotteries case -- Bail denied to all 34 accused

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 20: The bail applications of all the 34 accused under Sections 4, 5, 7 of the Lotteries Regulation Act, 1998, were declined by a city court here yesterday.

Taking up the bail applications filed here by all the 34 accused for selling banned lotteries and cheating people by charging more than the price printed on the lottery, City Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. Bishnoi declined the same on grounds that the allegations were of a serious nature and the investigation was pending.

The accused, who were also booked under Sections 420, 406 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, had earlier been remanded to judicial custody for a period up to July 2.

Bail applications of swindler couple rejected
The bail applications filed here by a city couple accused of having cheated members of a kitty committee to the tune of lakhs of rupees, was rejected by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. Bishnoi here.

Taking note of the fact that the amount involved in the case was voluminous and that the allegations against the accused of a serious nature, the Magistrate rejected the bail applications.

The same was also done with a view to make investigation into the matter easier.

It needs to be mentioned here that the couple had not surrendered after an first instance report was lodged against them on April 9. The surrender came here on June 16 after more than two months of registration of the FIR.

Earlier, the anticipatory bail applications of the couple had been rejected by the Sessions Court and also by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Meanwhile, the accused couple has been sent to judicial remand.
