Staff awaiting 15 per cent house rent, says Chandumajra

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, JUNE 20: The state government has failed to fulfill its commitment to grant 15 per cent house rent for government employees based at Patiala, said Prem Singh Chandumajra, general secretary, All India Shiromani Akali Dal. He said that at a May Day rally last year, the Chief Minister himself had announced that the demand had been accepted.

In a statement today, Chandumajra said that Badal had defrauded the employees by not implementing his own announcement. He said Badal had lowered not only his own status by such actions but had also lowered the status and dignity of the party. It was because of such actions that Badal was removed from the post of the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandumajra said.

He said that the Badal-led government had failed on all fronts and every section of society was angry with the Shiromani Akali Dal. The government had failed to check the price rise or solve the unemployment problem and developmental work had came to standstill throughout the state. Roads are in bad shape, especially in rural areas, he said.

Chandumajra said that on one hand, the state government said it had no money for development works, but on the other hand it was wasting money to counter Tohra. He said the farmers were in a miserable condition because they are getting only four hours of power a day even though paddy transplantation is in full swing.
