Pune, June 20: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Saturday directed the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport (PCMT) to stop plying its buses on three routes in Pune up to Kothrud, Katraj, and Hadapsar with immediate effect as the tenure of the temporary permits for these three routes has already lapsed. The letter said that as per the decision in the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting on June 10, the PMT and PCMT should reach an agreement for sharing of routes before June 30. The temporary permits for the three routes up to Kothrud, Katraj and Hadapsar has lapsed on June 17 and therefore PCMT should stop plying their buses on these routes till an agreement was reached or any directives are given by the RTA.
PCMT general manager Rajendra Saner Patil, when contacted, said that the PCMT will respect the order of the RTO and the services on the three routes will be stopped from tomorrow. He, however, added that it would be a great injustice to the PCMT if it is not allowed to ply the buses on these routes, when PMT is already plying its buses on 14 routes in Pimpri-Chinchwad limits.
Pune Mayor Dattatray Gaikwad said that following the directives of the RTO, PCMT should immediately stop its services on these three routes. PMT will urge the RTA to initiate action against the PCMT if the buses continue to ply on these routes, he said. PMT authorities said PCMT has been illegally plying its buses up to Pune station via Aundh, and up to the Pune Municipal Corporation. The High Court in its order has directed the PCMT to stop plying its buses on routes where permits have not been issued to them, the authorities added. The authorities said that as the PMT was already providing its services on these three routes, the commuters would not be affected if PCMT services were stopped. However the passenger traffic is divided between the two services because of which the PMT is facing a daily loss of Rs 50,000. RTA chairman Rajiv Agarwal told this paper that PMT and PCMT have been asked by RTA to reach an agreement regarding sharing of routes. However, if the two organisations fail to reach theagreemnt, the RTA would hold a meeting and arrive at a decision.
Gaikwad, reacting to Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Madhukar Pawle's statement that PMT would not be allowed to ply their buses in Pimpri-Chinchwad if PCMT buses are not allowed to ply in Pune, said the statement probably was made without adequate information and he would personally speak to him regarding the matter.
