ONGC employees' welfare body holds swimming meet

VADODARA, June 20: To beat the summer heat, the ONGC Employees' Welfare Committee recently organised a swimming competition, in 50 mts freestyle category, for its members and wards at the Lal Baug Swimming Pool. General Manager (P&A), J B Bhaya was the chief guest at the programme. About 15 employees and an equal number of wards participated in the competition.

Among the employees, S I Trivedi, (SG), C Suresh Kumar, AEE (Res) and S M Vasava, (SK) won the first, second and third prizes respectively. The category of wards was divided into two groups. In group-I, Pankaj Sultania, Rakesh Thakur and Ankur Mande and in group-II, Ambika Sultania, Ashutosh Joshi and Ashish Kapoor bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Elections: While the two-year tenure of the members of the ONGC Officers' Club, Vadodara, ended this year, election of new members of the Club was held through consensus on June 17. Group General Manager Daljit Singh continued as president of the Officers' Club, while Executive Director N Lal remained the patron. The new members elected were: DGM (Geophysics) U N Singh vice-president; Executive Engineer (Mech) Ratnesh Kumar secretary; Transport Officer A P Mathur joint-secretary and Executive Engineer M K Garg treasurer.

Till date the Officers' Club has 900 members and conducts regular vocational classes in Bharatnatyam, Hindustani classical music, tabla and drawing on the cultural front. While it recently started computer classes, the Club also conducts indoor and outdoor games including badminton, squash, carrom, table-tennis, karate, cricket including billiards.

Adventure activities: In order to rejuvenate the activities of adventure lovers, ONGC Western Region set up a body of the ONGC Himalayan Association (ONGCHA), which will operate from the Regional Office with coordinators in each project. ONGCHA secretary Rajeev Bansal, EE (P), is actively promoting a membership drive for the association so that treks in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh scheduled for autumn are well-represented.
