SURAT, June 20: Heavy rains continued to lash South Gujarat on the second day on Sunday. Three incidents of short circuits and collapsed walls were reported from different part of the city following the heavy rainfall in the last 48 hours. But no untoward incident was reported from any part of South Gujarat. More rainfall has been forecast for Monday in the entire South Gujarat region.The city received a long spell of rains since Saturday morning. In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 this morning, the city received 59 mm. And from 8.30 am until 5.30 pm, the city recorded 24.4 mm. Many low lying areas of the city were inundated.
Umargam taluka in Valsad district received the highest (200 mm) rainfall in the last 24 hours, followed by Vansda talukain Navsari district which recorded 174 mm.
Valsad town received 199 mm rains, Pardy 79 mm, Dharampur 77 mm, Jalapur in Navsari 162 mm, Gandevi 91 mm, and Chikhli 159 mm. Firebrigade sources said the wall of an uninhabited house collapsed in Gopipura Hanuman Char-rasta. No one was injured.
Shorcircuits were reported in Pandesra GIDC area, SantJalaram Society in Vedroad and at Rupal canal in Bhatar Road. Meanwhile, the Surat Municipal Corporation has set up control rooms in its six zonal offices.
