Yoga camp begins

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Chandigarh, June 20: Just by breathing in the air, we are allowing so many toxins to enter our system. As if that were not enough, we are subjecting ourselves to foods that wreak havoc with our body. To top it all, we are allowing stress to take over. The result is ill-health -- both mental and physical.

Bleak scene, you'll agree. But it takes the world-renowned yoga expert Prof M. Lall, who is conducting a three-day camp here, to remind us that thousands of years ago, yogis had worked out a simple daily exercise regimen to achieve a harmony in thoughts, words and deeds, which is the key to human well-being. So all we need to stay fit is to spare some time and follow it.

Prof Lall, who has been holding shows on television along with his wife, explained how the yoga asanas have been inspired from the animal kingdom and from the postures of a child.

He gave useful demonstrations of asanas that can relieve some of the commonest, but the most stubborn and painful ailments like spondylitis, stomach problems like constipation, heartburn, acidity and hypertension and dizziness, arthiritis, lack of concentration, listlessness and so on.

In the next two days, Prof Lall will be teaching these asanas. He will also be providing medicinal massages to those suffering from neck and backaches. The workshop, which is being conducted by the Chandigarh Press Club is exclusively for the members of the club.
