Decision on candidates for five LS seats soon, says Chautala
Ambala: Indian National Lok Dal president Om Prakesh Chautala said he would announce the names of candidates for the remaining five constituencies of Lok Sabha from the state in case his party did not reach agreement with BJP or any other party except Congress and HVP. He was speaking at a short halt at the PWD Rest House, Ambala Cantonment, on way to Chhachhrauli today. He reiterated that he was opposed to having relations with BJP if it did not sever its ties with the HVP.Plan for eye hospital near Ambala
AMBALA: A charitable eye hospital and eye bank, first of its kind in Haryana, will be opened about 10 km from the Ambala Cantt, on the GT road. This decision was taken at a meeting of philanthropists and senior citizens chaired by advocate A.K. Jain here, yesterday. Constructed on a 5-acre land costing over Rs 4 crore, the hospital would have 25 beds which would be later increased to 100. It would provide facilities for transplantation and donation of eyes and treatment for all eye ailments. The hospital would be got registered with the World Health Organisation and is likely to be completed within two years.
Two run over in separate mishaps
KHARAR: Two persons were killed on-the-spot in two different road mishaps in Kharar during the past 24 hours. Mokha Singh, (40) a resident of Uttar Pardesh who is employed at Kharar, was crushed to death by a speeding Tata-407 truck (PB-12-C-0989) on the Kharar-Banur road at the bus stand chowk here on Sunday. The driver of the truck fled. In another accident, Bhajan Singh, a resident of nearby Todarmajra village, was run over by a speeding truck (Pb-12-C-1315) on the Kharar-Chandigarh highway near the bus stand chowk last evening. The police has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code against truck driver Gurdeep Singh, who has been arrested.
Woman commits suicide
KHARAR: Gurmeet Kaur (31), a resident of Mundi Kharar village, allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance on Saturday. Police said she was immediately rushed to PGI, Chandigarh, where she died. Sources revealed that she was married to Kharar resident Sewa Singh about four years ago. She was mentally ill and was suffering from a prolonged illness. The police has registered a case under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code.
AICTE project for Punjabi varsity don
PATIALA: Dr Neelam Verma, Department of Biotechnology, has been assigned a project on studies on the development of biosensor for monitoring heavy metalions in industrial effluents and waste water by the All-India Council for Technical Education. Dr S.S. Gill of the same department would be the co-coordinator. This was stated in a press note issued by the university here today ENS.
