Fortune's Face / Daboo Ratnani
Sujata Assomull
Daboo Ratnani has been a well-known glamour photographer for the past four years. He has taken photos of nearly every films star from Ashwariya Rai to Urmila Matondkar. In fact, these days the pictures you see of Aamir Khan, Twinkle Khanna and Karishma Kapoor selling Coke have also been clicked by him.Twenty-seven years old, Daboo first began taking pictures while he was at college, as an assistant to Sumeet Chopra. In 1993, he got his first chance to go solo when he was asked to take promotional pictures of Sanjay Gupta's Aatish, starring Sanjay Dutt. From then on there was no looking back. "I began taking portofolio pictures and photographs for glossies like Stardust." Therefore it comes as no surprise that Daboo's muse is a film star -- an actress famous for her chameleon-like appearance. Whether Pooja Bhatt is doing a Demi Moore wearing nothing more than a paint body suit, or going traditional, Dabboo loves every avataar. He took his first picture of her in 1994. "And theresults were great." So much so that Pooja prefers her pictures to be shot by him. "She has taught me a lot about style. She really gets into her photo sessions, and sits through pre-production meetings." This particular picture of her was taken in Pooja's house about three years ago. When Pooja decided to stop avoiding the press. "She can carry off anything and she puts so much into each shot that my best work is done with her." Among the newcomers, he believes the faces to look out for are Kareena Kapoor and Hritik Roshan. "I have shot with her and I think she has got the vibe. Hritik I shot before he thought about coming into films. He has such confidence I am sure he will be a star." Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
