Beauty in the monsoon

Ritika Ramtri
Whether the monsoon blues hit you or the showers perk you up is entirely upto you. To stay cheerful and glowing through the monsoon, a little thought about your beauty care regimen will do absolute wonders for you. Put away your cool, crisp cottons and opt for synthetics and crease resistant fabrics which dry up fast and regain their original shape when dry.

Slushy roads and puddles everywhere make the feet get an absolute beating. The monsoon are definitely the time to look after one's feet. Wear appropriate shoes and at every night massage your feet with glycerin. This will help keep your feet smooth, soft and free from ointments. Go in for a regular pedicure as well.

Keep make-up on the face absolutely light avoid using foundation and face cream when you are going out as also eyeliner. The rain will wash it off leaving ugly stains on the face. Confine yourself to lipstick and some waterproof pencil lines. The watchword for hair is also simplicity. Avoid back combing and lacquer, intricate buns, curls and waves because the humidity in the air will make your hair limp and ugly within no-time at all. And if on the other hand humidity is making you completely frazzled, leave your mane into pigtail braids and chill. The key to looking more like Pocahontas is to braid hair only about halfway down and leave a few inches loose at the ends. Bonus, the styling will be done styling in seconds - perfect for those can't get-out-of-bed mornings. Use an anti-frizz lotion or leave in conditioner for more manageability.

To keep your skin smooth and supple in the monsoon use an egg mask once a week. Mix a teaspoon each of honey and lime juice in the white of an egg. Apply on your face and leave for one hour. Wash off with warm water and splash on cold water. If your face has a tendency towards dryness, it will become more obvious this season. Take the yolk of an egg and mix it with a teaspoon of cream of milk and a few drops of rose water. Apply and leave on for 15 minutes. Now that you have got your beauty regimen in order to get ready to waltz in the rain!
