Bull-run through New York's streets

NEW YORK: A wild bull escaped from an illegal rodeo on Monday and rampaged through city streets in the New York borough of Queens before it was shot to death by police. Police officers were shutting down the show, which did not have proper permits for wild animals in the city on Sunday, when the 2,000-pound bull escaped on a brief tour of the Big Apple, the New York Post reported on Monday. Four police officers set off on foot after the beast, as did the rodeo's bull rider, who waved his lasso in the air for good effect. The officers cornered the bull in the parking lot of a nearby housing project, where they shot it more than 40 times before it died, the paper said.

No breakthrough in Korea talks

BEIJING: Arch rivals North Korea and South Korea on Monday held landmark talks aimed at reuniting families separated for decades but the meeting ended with both sides restating their positions. South Korean Vice Unification Minister Yang Young-Sik toldmediapersons that each side restated its position on the reunions of divided families on each side and also the naval clash last week. North Korean delegation leader Pak Yong Su left without commenting to reporters. North Korea meanwhile claimed on Monday that more than 100 South Korean warships had deliberately intruded into Pyongyang's waters in the past two-and-a-half weeks in a bid to trigger a war.
