Fate of MFC students hangs in balance

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Chandigarh, June 22: The fate of about 200 students of the Master of Finance and Control (Part II) remains undecided, as their appeal for re-examination in the International Finance paper, made over a month ago, is still awaiting a nod from the Panjab University authorities.

Sources in the university point out that the students' plea for re-examination had been rejected by the Postgraduate Board of Studies, following which several students run the risk of failing their Part II exams.

The students had walked out of the examination centres on May 19 in protest against the paper being reportedly "off pattern". The students had gheraoed the Vice-Chancellor's office after the walkout, and later led by the Panjab University Campus Council president, made a representation seeking early re-examination in the paper.

According to a senior official, the students' appeal made to the Controller of Examinations through the chairperson of the Department of Correspondence Studies, was forwarded for opinion to the board of studies. The board is learnt to have rejected the case for re-examination. "Almost all of us walked out within 10 minutes of the start of the exam. If there is no re-examination, chances are that all of us will fail beacuse no one will be able to score even the minimum requirement for securing a compartment," an MFC Part II student pointed out.

Students of the MFC say that last year too the same paper had been "off pattern", following which the exam was conducted again. Peeved at the developments, the students have decided to submit a memorandum to the PU Vice-Chancellor on Thursday, seeking his intervention in the matter.
