PANCHKULA, JUNE 22: A 54-year-old woman, Kaushalya Gandhi, a resident of Sector 4 here, was duped of valuables and cash by a man posing as a "sadhu" at around 1 p.m. today. This is the eighth incident in the town in the past six months and the modus operandi has been the same in all the cases which took place in Sectors 16 and 17.In today's incident, Kaushalya told the Newsline that she had gone to the Sector 4 market when she was approached by a well-dressed man in his mid forties who asked her for directions to the Radhaswamy Bhawan. When she replied that there was no such bhawan, the man asked about the Sector 15 market. After he left, a woman approached Kaushalya and started praising the man and described him as a saint. Soon the man was back and both hypnotised Kaushalya, asking her to hand over her jewellery and cash and to walk 10 steps away. She was then told to wrap the jewellery and cash in a handkerchief and to hand it over to them.
She was then asked to leave, directed not to talk to anyone and to open the handkerchief after some hours. When Kaushalya reached back home, she suspected foul play and opened the handkerchief in which she found a couple of metal bangles. She lost gold jewellery worth Rs 40,000 and Rs 400 in cash.
