CHANDIGARH, JUNE 22: All the officers and employees of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh have voluntarily donated a day's salary for the benefit of soldiers fighting on the Kargil front. According to an official spokesman of the Corporation, they have also decided to donate 300 units of blood for the Kargil soldiers whenever required, intimation for which has already been sent to the GOC-in-C (Western Command) at Chandimandir.Meanwhile, Joint Action Committee of the employees of the Malaria wing of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has also decided to donate one day's salary of the entire staff and 50 units of blood for the soldiers injured at Kargil.
Sec 38 residents to set up Kargil fund
The Residents Welfare Association of Sector 38-A and B today resolved to set up a fund for contribution to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to help the families of the Kargil and Drass martyrs. In a copy of the resolution sent to the UT administrator and city mayor, Association president Amrit Lal Mahajan pointed out various problems faced by the residents of these Sectors.
Rs 5 lakh grant for Command Hospital
A Grant of Rs 5 lakhs has been given to the Western Command Hospital, Chandimandir, by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. The check for the Grant was handed over to Hospital Commandant Maj Gen Virendra Singh, by the Director Sainik Welfare, Punjab, Brig K.S. Kahlon (Retd) today.
Meanwhile, all employees of the Punjab Sainik Welfare Directorate have decided to contribute one day's salary for the welfare of families of troops affected by the Kargil crisis.
HCS officers do their bit
The executive committee of HCS (Executive) Officers Association, which met here yestersay, has decided to donate one day's salary to the Haryana chief minister's War Heroes' Relief Fund, as their contribution for the brave soldiers fighting out in the Kargil sector. The meeting also observed two-minute silence in memory of the war heroes.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking Workers Union has also decided to donate their one day's salary to the Prime minister's Relief Fund. A delegation of the Union also met the UT Adviser Vineeta Rai, who appreciated the gesture and called upon other social and other bodies to come forward and donate for the cause.
Rs 4 lakh grant for soldiers' wards
The Panjab University Teachers' Association (PUTA) has decided to create an endowment of Rs 4 lakh for the education of children of soldiers.
The decision to donate one day's salary and create the endowment was taken at the meeting of the executive committee of PUTA today, a press release said. The release added that the committee "paid glowing tributes to the soldiers safeguarding our borders. The efforts of the soldiers fighting the war in Kargil were specially lauded." The executive committee also appealed to all faculty members to donate one day's salary towards this endowment. "Our aim is to create an endowment corpus of a minimum of Rs 4 lakh by the end of June," Rajivlochan added.
