Accidental death proves to be murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, June 22: The veil over the mysterious death of a married woman living in the slums of Subhash Nagar near the Vadodara Railway Station was lifted after the post-mortem suggested that the woman died of internal injuries.

The report made the Sayajigunj police sit up and investigate the case which was registered as an accidental death on the morning of June 19.

The woman's body had been spotted by some boys of the locality around 7 a.m. that day. They informed the police, and the body was recovered by PSI S M Nayak, who lodged an FIR with the Sayajigunj police where he is posted.

Interrogations of slum residents revealed that the woman, who had lost both of her parents after marriage two years ago, had come back here after a quarrel with her husband and earned her living by doing odd jobs.

According to her neighbours, the woman's husband, Laxman alias jadio Ambalal Machchi of Kim Char rasta in Surat came back on June 18 to take her back, but she refused to go with him. Angry with her refusal, Machchi allegedly hit her in the abdomen and private parts which led to her death. He escaped after throwing her body on the road near the slum, the residents reportedly told the police.
