Four injured in mishap

VADODARA, June 22: A State Transport bus driver, in an attempt to overtake a private vehicle, hit three cyclists with his vehicle, then rammed it into a luxury bus and finally hit a electric pole before coming to a halt on Tuesday morning.

While four people were injured in the mishap -- which occurred opposite bungalow no 40 of Koyagate Society in Navapura area in the city -- and were admitted to the nearby Yogini Vasantidevi Hospital, the condition of one is said to be serious.

The accused was later handed over to the police by the people and a case under Sections 279, 337, 4267 IPC and Sections 177 and 184 of Motor Vehicle Act was registered against him.

According to Navapura PI R D Gamit, the driver Kantibhai Chaturbhai Patel after losing control of his vehicle first hit Ramchandra L Sukdare, who was riding a cycle, injuring him seriously.

The bus then hit two other cyclists and a bus (GJ-6-U-9972) injuring the cyclists as well as the bus driver. However, all the three escaped with minor injuries.

In a separate incident, three people were injured in road mishap in Bhilapur village near Jetpur-Pavi town in the district on Tuesday. According to Vadodara rural police control room, the victims who were travelling in a Tempo (GJ-6-6386) were injured when the vehicle collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. While the injured are undergoing treatment in SSG Hospital, the truck driver sped away.
