Crime Watch -- Surat

Knocked down
Surat:
A 56-year-old man was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near the railway station on Tuesday morning, the Mahidharpura police said. According to a police complaint filed by Dilip Sonawala, his father Lalchand (56) was walking opposite Hotel Savera on the Sufi Baug Road when he was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle at around 6:30 a.m. Lalchand died on the spot while the driver fled the scene. The Mahidharpura police have registered a case under sections of the IPC and MVA and are investigating further.

Suicide
Shanta Keshu Makwana (32), a married woman residing at Bahucharnagar Society in Katargam died early on Tuesday morning in the Maskati hospital, where she was admitted a few hours earlier with burn injuries. A case registered in the police station under CrPC 174 said that the woman locked herself in the bathroom and set herself on fire while everybody else in the house was sleeping. The police have still not ascertained the reason behind the extreme step although family members have been questioned by ASI Jagdish who is investigating the case.

Burgled
Vadodara:
Rs 3 lakhs in cash and ornaments worth Rs 15,000 were reportedly stolen from two houses in the Santoshnagar area of Padra town, about 18 kms from here, last night. According to the Padra police, Balwantbhai Bhatt, who had withdrawn some money from his bank account and arranged the rest from his relatives and friends for purchasing a piece of land, had kept the money in the steel cupboard and went to sleep on the terrace of his house alongwith his parents. The burglars entered his house by removing the window grill and decamped with the cash. Ornaments worth Rs 15,000 were stolen from another house of the same locality belonging to Kanubhai Parmar who was also sleeping on the rooftop alongwith his family members. Investigations are on.
