MUMBAI, JUNE 22: Though the crucial meeting of the Sena-BJP alliance coordination committee to settle the differences over simultaneous polls in the state was postponed today owing to absence of state BJP president Suryabhan Wahadane, Sena supremo Bal Thackeray now appears to have softened his stand indicating that he may eventually give up his insistence on completing the full five year term of the state government.``We were supposed to take a decision on holding simultaneous polls, but the meeting was postponed since Wahadane could not reach Mumbai. However, sooner or later we will have to take a decision,'' Thackeray told The Indian Express today. When asked if he was still firm on holding separate elections as he had stated in an interview to the Sena mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray said there was no question of remaining firm on his views. ``We will have to take a decision taking into account the current political situation in the country. I will also discuss the issue with BJP leaderPramod Mahajan who is expected to take up the matter with the Prime Minister,'' Thackeray said. Mahajan and Thackeray are scheduled to meet at a function in Nagpur on June 24 where the issue is likely to be discussed threadbare.
In his Saamna interview Thackeray had stated that it would be unwise to go in for simultaneous polls since the alliance had been elected for a full five-year term. . However, keeping a door open, Thackeray had also added that he was prepared for simultaneous polls since he was sure of the victory of the alliance in both the LS and Assembly elections.
