BONN, JUNE 27: Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Vojislav Seselj, who has resigned from but not left the government, was quoted in a German magazine on Saturday saying Yugoslavia would renege on its $12 billion foreign debt.Asked by Der Spiegel how Yugoslavia intended to pay back its debt, the leader of the ultra nationalist Radical party said, "We won't. We will count them (the debts) against the war damage.""We will not sell our country politically for a few silver coins," Seselj said. Earlier this month, 15 Radical party ministers resigned from the Serbian government protesting the deployment of NATO troops in Kosovo under a peace deal agreed to by Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. The ministers will remain in the republic's cabinet until a new government is elected.
Seselj said that while he was in favour of early election he considered it dangerous for Milosevic to step down at present. "It would lead to dangerous confusion and destabilisation," he said.
"There is no better guarantee thatMilosevic will stay in power than insisting he be overthrown. The West does not understand the Serbian soul," Seselj added.
