HC on Ceat brand name

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has restrained three companies manufacturing and selling tyres and tubes from using the "Ceat" brand name and appointed local commissioners to take into custody the offending goods.

Acting on a petition filed by Ceat Ltd, Justice M S A Sidiqui said use of word Ceat, the Rhino logo and slogan "Born Tough" by Bestyear Rubber Industries, Dashmesh Rubber Industries and Gobind Rubber Industries amounted to infringement of petitioner's trademark. Ceat counsel Man Mohan Singh submitted before the court that the respondent companies were trying to pass off their inferior quality goods as those of Ceat Ltd and sought appointment of local commissioners to seize the goods.

Scam case

MUMBAI: In a new twist to the multi-crore securities scam, a special court has recalled a key witness to depose on Big Bull Harshad Mehta's allegation that he (Mehta) had paid a huge amount of money to former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao in 1991. MohanKhandelwal, a former employee of Harshad Mehta and an approver who turned hostile to the Big Bull in the Maruti Udyog Limited case, would step into the witness box tomorrow for cross-examination by a defence team led by Mahesh Jethmalani.

Asia surges

SINGAPORE: Economic forecasts across Asia have surged over the past few months, with some of the region's most battered economies now expected to show robust growth this year and next.

A survey of 130 economists found mighty hikes in the outlooks for South Korea and Indonesia and, to a lesser extent, Hong Kong and Malaysia, suggesting that the regional slowdown is finishing sooner rather than later. Even the indomitable Australian and Taiwan economies are seen stronger than in the previous survey done in March.
