Pakistan Army official confirms intrusion

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
ISLAMABAD, JUNE 27: A senior Pakistani Army officer has confirmed that Islamabad's forces have intruded into the Indian side of the Line of Control in Kargil and claimed if they can hold on to their current position for two more months, India will lose control over Siachen.

Brigadier Tahir Mahmood, leading the Pakistani Army in the Kargil sector, told the Nawa-e-Waqt at a forward post that the Srinagar-Leh highway near the peaks of Drass and Kargil was within striking range of Pakistani Army at five points. Mahmood's statement is a reiteration of a similar claim by Pakistan Army spokesman Brig Rashid Qureshi recently.

Former ISI chief Gen Hamid Gul has also said if the control over the peaks of Drass and Kargil can be maintained for another two months, India's land connection to Siachen will be completely cut-off.
