ONGC sports camp trains children in badminton, Table tennis

VADODARA, June 27: A 21-day Summer Coaching camp for imparting training in badminton and table tennis to the wards of ONGC employees was recently held at the ONGC sports pavilion, Vadodara. About 135 wards participated in the camp, which used to start with physical training exercises followed by the training by coaches, Jayesh Bhalawala and Cishnulal Sharma of Sports Authority of Gujarat.

While Tarun Kumar Singh and Komal Joshi were selected the most promising talents in table tennis, Sajal Awasthi and Shivangi Sharma were selected the most promising talents in badminton. Tarun Kumar was adjudged the most disciplined participant.

Daljit Singh, GGM/Basin Manager was present as the chief guest for the closing ceremony.

Visit paid: The office-bearers and executive members of the All-India Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Employees' Welfare Association, (AISC/STEWA), Vadodara Branch, visited Chhotaudepur recently and distributed fans, daris, books in various schools of the taluka. The programme was organised as part of the SC/ST Component Plan of ONGC. J B Bhaya, General Manager (P&A) also accompanied the team, led by P M Parmar, Branch Chairman of Vadodara branch of AISC/STEWA.

Women's Polytechnic: Mehsana Project of ONGC, Western Region, has set up a Women's Polytechnic at Palavasa complex, Mehsana, keeping in view ONGC's commitment towards social development in its areas of operations. Jauhari Lal, Director (P) of ONGC will inaugurate the polytechnic on August 23.

The polytechnic proposes to start courses in cutting, tailoring, embroidery and beautification in the current academic session. Around 25 students would be enrolled initially for each course.

While the governing body of the polytechnic comprises representatives of ONGC, Mahila Samiti, local social workers and educationists, the infrastructural facilities for the centre was provided by ONGC.

The need for the polytechnic was felt after preliminary discussions with the available heads of ITI's eminent educationists and social workers at Mehsana and Ahmedabad, thus paving way for self-employment for women.
