URI (J&K), JUNE 29: The shelling of villages dotting the Line of Control in this area have taught a major lesson to the inhabitants - with the Government not being of much help, one has to carry on, with courage and tenacity."Pakistani shells have damaged our houses and property but no Government official has taken stock of it to compensate us," Mohammad Hussein of Thajal village told PTI.
Villagers of Namla, Silikote, Tilwari, Charmuda and Garkote have similar tales to tell. Two days back, splinters from a shell which exploded in Akbar Bi's backyard in Charmuda village injured her badly. Her family is yet to hear from the Government.
"The shelling and machine gun fire was not so intense two years back and we had never suffered so much, whether it came to rearing sheep or raising crops," says Lal Din Mir, block president of Thajal.
An official in the area told PTI, "Compensation can be given only after proper assessment of damage to household property".
