SJM advocates crossing of LoC to fight intruders

Devesh Kumar
NEW DELHI, JUNE 29: In a development which marks a hardening of stance on the part of the RSS, its economic arm, the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM), has advocated the crossing of the Line of Control (LoC) to contain Pakistan's aggression in Kargil.

The stance adopted by the SJM in the form of a resolution passed by its National Council, which held its two-day meeting at Udaipur on June 26-27, is likely to be endorsed by the RSS in the annual meeting to be held at Varanasi in the first week of July.

The SJM, at the same time, lauded the Vajpayee Government for the successes notched up subsequently on the war and diplomatic fronts. ``Kargil has become a symbol -- of our bravery, of our unbelievable courage, of our tradition of sacrifice and of our resolve to sacrifice everything for the country's interests.''

``While our soldiers have demonstrated their supreme courage and bravery on the front, the Indian Government has demonstrated to the world its firmness and political wisdom......Today none of thecountries are supporting Pakistan. It has become totally isolated,''it added.

The resolution, entitled ``The Kargil Conflict and National Security'', observed that ``Pakistan had imposed a war upon us by clearly breaching the LoC. The intrusion in Kargil is actually an attack carried out by the Pakistani army and hence it should not be seen as a mere intrusion. It should be seen as a full-fledged war and should be tackled accordingly.''

Elaborating the point further, SJM national organiser P Murlidhar Rao pointed out that military logistics should prevail while deciding the question of crossing the LoC. ``It is not a sacred line whose sanctity should be respected at any cost. The Pakistani army has already violated it and we should reply in the same coin,'' he said.

The SJM resolution also noted that Kashmir was not a disputed territory and hence, there was no need for a third-party mediation.

It also advised the Government not to enter into any pact with Pakistan on the lines of Tashkent and Shimlaagreements, as ``it (Pakistan) never respects them''.

It also called upon the western countries and the financial institutions controlled by them to stop all aid to Pakistan with immediate effect.

The meeting was attended by representatives of almost all the frontal organisations of the RSS, including SJM co-convenor S Gurumurthy, BJP general secretary K N Govindacharya, ABVP joint organising secretary Harendra Kumar and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh organising secretary Om Prakash Aghi.
