Forms for power connections distributed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, JUNE 29: Over 500 forms for providing electricity connections to slum-dwellers in Janata Colony and Kumhar colony were distributed at a camp, held by the UT Electricity Department at Kumhar Colony here today. City Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal inaugurated the camp.

The process of form distribution started at 10 am and continued till 5 pm with the help of two inspectors from the UT Estate Office, 4 JEs and two SDOs. The police personnel were also deployed for the maintenance of law and order. However, no untoward incident was reported.

The Executive Engineer, V.P. Dhingra, who supervised the operation, told Newsline that this camp was organised on the initiative of the Mayor. With the distribution of 530 forms to those whose names are isted in the survey of the Estate Office, the number forms distributed in the Janata and Kumhar colonies has gone up to 45,000 against 5,000 eligible slum-dwellers.

To avoid any inconvenience to slum-dwellers, the Executive Engineer said the camp for security deposit can be held in the colony, if the residents wanted and added that no camp will be held in the future and the electrification process in these colonies would be completed shortly thereby paving the way for complete removal of `kundis'.

In a separate function held at Janata Colony of Sector 25, the Mayor distributed ration cards prepared by the UT Food and Supply Department to the families of those whose names are in the voters' list.

Speaking on the occasion, he strongly defended the cause of issuing ration cards to all persons whose names are in the voters' list.
