Labourer dies of snake bite
Manna Magan Gamit, 30, a farm labourer of Agaswaan village in Songadh taluka died after being bitten by a poisonous snake on Monday evening. Doctors at the Vyara Refrall hospital, where he was rushed to, declared Gamit dead on admission. The police have registered a case under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Cases of snake bite deaths are on the rise because of the monsoons although the health department has claimed that adequate stocks of anti-snake venom serum have been supplied to all health centres in the district.

Sets fire to self
Mina Sukha Somabhai (30), an unmarried woman residing at Bharimata Phulwadi slum of Chowk Bazaar area committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Monday night, a case registered in the police station said. She was rushed by family members to the New Civil hospital, where she died at 9 am today morning. A case under CrPC 174 has been registered at the Chowk Bazaar police station.

Road accident
An unidentified Maruti car driver died on the spot when he was hit by a luxury bus near Gangadhara village of Palsana taluka on the Surat-Dhule Road. The mishap took place around Monday midnight and the bus driver escaped from the spot, the police, who have registered a case under IPC 304(a) and sections of the MVA, said.

Rickshaw looted
Unidentified youth posing as passengers looted an autorickshaw driver at knife-point, escaping with his autorickshaw worth Rs 57,000 and Rs 130 in cash during the early hours of Tuesday. Samarnath Yadav, the rickshaw driver, told the police that three unidentified persons boarded his rickshaw (GJ 5 TT 7382) at Ved road at around 1 am on Tuesday asking to be taken to Chowk. However, at Bharimata, they drew knives and threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm.
