SURAT, June 29: The Katargam police have registered a case against five people, booking them for criminal trespassing, illegally confining a person, forgery and attempted land-grabbing. A case under the Atrocities Act has also been registered as the complainant belongs to a scheduled caste.Nagin Soma Rathod, a resident of Minakshi Wadi area of Katargam and a rickshaw driver by profession, lodged a police complaint alleging that Jadhav Laxman Patel, Parshottam Savji Dabhi and Devsinh Rabari had made false ownership documents of the plot of land on which he lives and were attempting to grab the land.
Rathod contended that he had been living for over two decades on the plot of land (survey no 278 to 282) at Minakshi Wadi in Katargam. He told the police that the plot was registered in the name of his mother Laxmi Soma Rathod.
The three accused, along with three other unidentified persons allegedly picked him up from his house, illegally detained him and threatened him at knife-point on Monday, asking him to vacate the land. He even alleged that the three had forged ownership documents of the land and were attempting to grab it.
In the complaint, Rathod alleged that although it is absolutely essential for the parties to get ownership papers sanctioned from the collectorate, this was not done by the accused.
The Katargam police stated that although none of the accused had been arrested yet, the dispute was a longstanding one with claims on the land being made by both parties. Of late, tension between the two parties had increased as those named in the complaint are planning to construct a residential building on the plot of land.
