Ask the Doctor

Harshad Oak
Most illnesses are the same worldwide and so is their prevention and cure. So why consult your doctor each time you have a query concerning the medical world. It is quite likely that someone else had just the same problem and had got it answered from the cyber doctors. Log-in to the world of online medical advice.

The Mayoclinic site at http://www.mayohealth.org/mayo/expert/htm/physind.htm has a pleasant and impressive design and should answer your queries regarding allergies, cancer, nutrition, ENT and other ailments. The site also has sections carrying frequently asked questions regarding the various illnesses.

Yahoo being the top-notch site that it is, also has a great `Ask the doctor section' at http://health.yahoo.com/health/expert. This section is updated everyday and those questions asked and answered in the past can also be accessed. It is divided into Family Health Advice and General Health Advice. Two other ask-the-doctor sites are http://www.bethisraelny.org/interactive/askdoctor.html and http://www.ask-the-doc.com . These are on similar lines to the MayoClinic site and deal with a number of ailments.

If obesity is a problem and you expect diet soft drinks to do wonders for you, Get real! Check out the A-Z of diets at http://www.dietitian.com , from junk food to caffeine side effects, it's all there.

A very unconventional site is http://www.dreamdoctor.com . Its creators say that it is designed to educate readers about the unconscious mind as it is revealed through the medium of dreams. It has even classified dreams into a number of sections each carrying the relevant dreams sent in by readers and analysed by the experts. If not anything else, it surely makes for some crazy reading.

Chain Smokers and dipsomaniac of the cyber world can seek out some much-needed help at http://www.drsteve.org. It provides info about and ways to quit the habit.

A word of caution is that be careful before trying out any medications suggested on these sites. You can at least catch hold of your family doc if things go wrong but not the online doctors.
