Introduction of new trains put off due to Kargil mobilisation

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, JUNE 30: The Railway Board has directed the various railway divisions to postpone the introduction of all new trains, following the priority given to mobilisation of troops and equipment related for the Kargil conflict.

For instance the Gandhidham-Delhi and Jaipur-Bangalore trains that were to begin on Western Railway from July have been postponed.

Central Railway has also postponed the introduction of four new trains. These include a new bi-weekly super fast train between Kurla and Patna, a new weekly express train between Pune and Ernakulam, a tri-weekly train between Gwalior and Indore and a fast passenger train between Gulbarga and Raichur.

While there are no changes in WR's suburban services, the division has brought forward the timings of two long distance trains in its new user friendly time table. The Bandra-Bikaner Ranakpur Express that left at 15.10 will now leave at 15.00 hours. The Sayaji Express that departed for Baroda daily at 14.50 will now leave at 14.40 hours.

Meanwhile, there will be no reduction in the existing 1077 suburban services of Central Railway in the new time table. However, an effort has been made to rationalise the time table and increase the existing maintenance margins.

According to a press release, to improve punctuality and avoid clashing of semi-fast trains at Thane, changes hav e been effected in the following, Bl-9 (CSTM dep, 9.17/Badlapur arr 11.02) semi-fast local has been made as fast local, K-27 (CSTM dep. 10.02/Kalyan arr. 11.24) semi-fast local has been made a slow local, S-36 (Karjat dep. 18.37/CSTM arr. 21.02) semi-fast local has been made a fast local, and the timing has been changed for the following, KS-1 kalyan dep. 05.10 is changed to 05.25 hours, BR-3 CSTM dep. 00.34 is changed to 00.19 hours, V-1 CSTM dep 00.49 is changed to 00.34 hours, M-1 CSTM dep. 00.19 is changed to 00.49 hours.

In order to reduce the gap between BL-19 (CSTM dep. 14.50 hours) and S-21 (CSTM dep. 16.04 hours), BL-19 and A-35 (CSTM dep. 15.15 hours) has beeninterchanged for the convenience of commuters. I.E. Bl-19 will now leave CSTM at 15.15 hours and A-35 will now leave CSTM at 14.50 hours.
