MUMBAI, JUNE 30: Schools and colleges will be provided with police security during the ongoing admissions following Saturday's attack on Sacred Heart School at Worli and Our Lady of Good Counsel at Sion by Shiv Sainiks.The police commissioner has directed all regional additional commissioners of police to provide security and ensure that admissions are conducted peacefully. Girl students will also be protected from sexual harassment, a senior police officer said.
Local police stations have been specifically instructed to undertake preventive measures to avoid violent incidents outside college campuses when admission forms are distributed. Patrolling will also be stepped up around sensitive colleges identified as such by the local police. These include K C College at Churchgate, Siddharth College at Fountain, Chetana College at Bandra (E), Acharya College at Chembur, National College at Bandra, Bhavans College at Andheri and Ismail Yusuf College at Jogeshwari. Police presence around some catholic-runschools has also been increased.
With the Anti-Ragging Law taking effect in the state, senior police inspectors have been instructed to brief school and college principals about the technicalities of the law. In the event that incidents which can be deemed as ragging take place, school and college principals are supposed to conduct an inquiry within a week and submit a report to the police.
