Artists get together for Kargil
In an artistic gesture aimed at raising funds for the families of jawans who either died or were crippled at Kargil, at least 20 painters and sculptors of South Gujarat will display their creations for a week till July 25 at the Rotary Art Gallery in Timliwad. The artists will complete their works at a camp on July 17 and 18; the exhibition will be inaugurated on the evening of July 18.

Interested artistes can get in touch with Jagdeep Smart at 11, Jaisomnath Society, Ichhanath (227814) or Rohit Zaveri at 2-A, Jaldarshan Apartment, near Old Civil Court (471314). Smart and Zaveri have also appealed to non-government organisations and art lovers to help the endeavour.

Truck for Kargil
The Daman & Diu Youth Congress has sent a tempo full of essential commodities to the war-ravaged region of Kargil. Daman Collector Raj Saxena flagged off the tempo at Dabhel in the presence of president-cum-chief counsellor of Daman & Diu Dayhabhai V Patel, UT unit Congress president Aslam Khan, Youth Congress leader Ketan Patel and a number of sarpanchs, councillors and citizens.

PAN allotment
The process of allotting the Permanent Account Number to assesses who applied last year will be over by August, Income Tax Commissioner R B Shukla told the Income Tax Practitioners's Association. Members of the Association, who called on the commissioner recently, had expressed concern over the delay in allotting the PAN to the 3,99,075 city residents who had applied for it.

Rotary president
Ashokbhai Shah is the new president of Rotary Club of Surat-Sea Face. He was installed on Tuesday at a ceremony presided over by Gujarat Assembly speaker Dheerubhai Shah. Addressing the gathering, Shah said he would organise polio camps and eye camps, and would donate Rs 25,000 to the Soldiers' Welfare Fund. South Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Prem Sharda was also felicitated on the occasion.
