VADODARA, June 30: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will have three new deputy municipal commissioners, including one holding a Masters in Business Administration, in addition to the existing two.The posts have been created to strengthen the zonal system of administration introduced by the civic body last year. The city has been divided in four zones out of which south and west zones have started functioning.
Currently the zones look after engineering, sanitation, revenue and encroachment. There are plans to undertake work involving shops and establishments, vehicle tax and catching cattle in the future.
A proposal for three new posts was passed at a Standing Committee meeting presided over by N V Patel on Wednesday.
One of the deputy municipal commissioners will be selected from the Assistant Municipal Commissioners or a first class civic officer of equivalent rank in a State Government department who has put in 10 years of service.
Another deputy would be an executive engineer from the VMC or a person holding a similar position with 10 years of service.
In an important decision, one deputy municipal commissioner will be appointed through direct recruitment. He should have an MBA degree with five years of experience.
Departing from the convention of filling the DyMC (General)'s post from VMC officers, the VMC has decided to get a Gujarat Administrative Service (GAS) officer. About one and a half year go, I B Peerzada was brought on deputation basis after VMC apparently failed to find a suitable candidate.
In another decision, B S Trapasia has been made the City Engineer. However, formal approval will be given by the General Board.
